Some words on Rock and Roll

Rock and Roll music is famous for defining the 1950’s and originated in the Untited States in the late 1940’s. Rock and Roll in its early for was usually played on one or two electric guitars (rhythm and lead), anelectric bass guitar and drum kit. The piano was used as the lead instrument in early 1940’s Rock and Roll playing the boogie woogie piano which defines the big band era of that time. The saxophone was used as the lead solo instrument in early 1950’s Rock and Roll, then later the lead instrument progressed to lead guitar.

Rock and Roll was so popular that it created a massive social impact which effected not only music style but attitudes, lifestyles, a dance genre, fashion and language. Famous artists of this era include, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and the Everly Brothers.

Grooveline have very strong roots in Rock and Roll. Both Mary Ann and Charlotte worked for a Rock and Roll show called ‘At The Hop’ before they formed Grooveline. Therefore this genre is one of our favourites and we love to jive!
