Grooveline - North East Function Band

Charlotte passed her Royal Academy of Music exams, at Grade 8 level in both saxophone and flute, while she was still at school. Despite this classical grounding, her musical interests have always spanned the entire musical spectrum, which led her to perform as a soloist and in a wide variety of bands, orchestras and ensembles.

A born performer, Charlotte was a founding member of the North East’s much acclaimed all-girl saxophone band, Simply Sax, and the popular flute ensemble, Flutation, performing all over Britain and America.

By the age of 21, Charlotte earned an honours degree in Jazz, Popular and Commercial Music. While at university, she played saxophone for the popular club band, Cadillac59 and was a woodwind player in the orchestra for many professional shows, including Oklahoma, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, Mac and Mabel and Sweeny Todd. She also worked as the deputy tenor saxophone player for the nationally acclaimed touring theatre show ‘At the Hop'.

After university, Charlotte toured England playing for the theatre show, Swing Fever, and was the baritone sax player for Tower of Power tribute band, East Bay. She also played in the jazz duo, Affinity, and managed the swing band, In the Mood.

More recently, Charlotte has worked as a session musician and performed alongside many of the North East’s top musicians and even some international artists, including Wynton Marsalis, Steve Feroni and Girls Aloud. She manages the Grooveline band and Grooveline Entertainment alongside Kevin Allcroft.

Grooveline is a Newcastle based band therefore they mainly work throughout Newcastle, Northumberland, Sunderland, Tyneside and Durham, however they are able to travel to anywhere in the UK and further if needed. The band have played many high profile wedding and function venues which include The Newcastle and Gateshead Hilton; St James Park, Newcastle; Linden Hall, Morpeth; Ellingham Hall, Northumberland; Headlam Hall, County Durham; The Federation Brewry, Dunston; The Grand Hotel, Blackpool and many more. ‘Grooveline Entertainment’ is also able to provide many other different live music and entertainment combinations - solo musicians for wedding ceremonies and receptions, jazz duo’s, and trio’s - and DJ services.
